There’s a myth floating around that a beautiful wall piece has to come from a boutique with a scary price tag. That’s just not true, lol!
Some of the prettiest pieces are made from stuff already sitting in a junk drawer or a backyard. String, dried petals, old photos, scrap wood; it all counts!
This list pulls together fifteen ideas cuadros that are actually doable on a normal weekend, not just pretty in theory.
Hundreds of pins got scrolled through to put this together. Anything that needed fancy tools or a studio budget got tossed out immediately!
What’s left are pieces that look great in a real living room, not just a showroom. Some take twenty minutes, others need an afternoon.
Scroll down, pick a favorite or three! Grab the how-to link under each one for the full steps.
IDEAS CUADROS
Cuadro De Hojas Secas
Dried leaves are basically free art supplies and nobody talks about that enough. I press mine between book pages for a week so they flatten out right.
Arrange them on cardstock inside a plain frame and the whole thing looks intentional. Who doesn’t love that?
It looks like it cost real money!
- Zero dollar craft supply
- Leaves from the yard work fine
- Dries flat in about a week
Cuadro Con Hilos Y Clavos
String art looks intimidating until you actually try it. Then it’s kind of addictive, haha! Nails go in first, then the thread weaves back and forth to build the shape.
A simple heart or mountain range is forgiving for a first attempt. Mine came out a little wonky the first time and I still hung it up proudly!
- Beginner proof shape
- Works with leftover embroidery floss
- One board and a hammer
Cuadro Botanico Con Flores Prensadas
Pressed flowers turn a plain frame into something that looks like a botanical journal. Pansies and daisies flatten well since they’re already thin.
I gave mine a full two weeks under something heavy before framing. Rushing this step is the one mistake that ruins the whole project.
Trust me, patience pays off here!
- The patience payoff piece
- Needs two full weeks to press
- Any flat bloom from the garden works
Cuadro Geometrico En Madera
Geometric wood pieces have that modern cabin look without trying too hard. Thin strips of scrap wood get arranged into triangles or a sunburst pattern.
I always add a coat of stain to bring out the grain. It ends up looking pulled from a furniture store. This one earns the most questions when people visit, am I right?
- Looks store bought instantly
- Scrap wood from the garage
- Stain in one coat
Cuadro Con Tela Y Bastidor
Fabric on a bastidor is the easiest fake art trick out there. Stretch a bold print over a canvas frame and staple the back.
Nobody needs to know it took fifteen minutes! That’s my story and I’m sticking to it, lol!
- Fifteen minute wall win
- Any fabric scrap works
- No painting skill required
Cuadro De Mosaico Con Espejos
Mirror mosaics catch light in a way paint just can’t compete with. Small broken mirror pieces get glued onto a wood base in whatever pattern feels right.
I fill the gaps with grout and it pulls the whole piece together. Are you guys seeing how much sparkle this adds to a hallway?
- Catches every bit of light
- Broken mirror pieces from craft aisle
- Grout ties it together
Cuadro Con Pintura Acrilica Fluida
Fluid acrylic pouring is oddly relaxing once you get past the fear of ruining a canvas. Colors get mixed with pouring medium then tilted across the surface.
Every single one comes out different, which is half the fun! This is the project that gets my whole kitchen table covered in plastic sheeting, haha!
- No two pieces match ever
- Pouring medium from the craft store
- Dries flat overnight
Cuadro Collage De Fotos Familiares
A photo collage frame is the one gift that actually gets displayed instead of shoved in a drawer. Old prints, ticket stubs and a few polaroids all fit together nicely.
It never comes down! How cute is that?
- The gift that stays hung up
- Old prints work great
- Mix in a few ticket stubs
Cuadro Con Macrame Colgante
Macrame hanging pieces bring a soft texture that flat art just can’t give a wall. Knots build up into a pattern that looks way harder than it actually is.
I hold the whole thing at the top with a dowel rod. This is the one that makes a bare wall feel finished in a single afternoon.
Even beginners pull it off on the first try.
- Softens a bare wall fast
- One dowel and cotton cord
- Learn three knots and you’re set
Cuadro Con Relieve De Yeso
Plaster relief pieces have this sculptural look that photos just don’t capture well. Wet plaster gets pressed into a mold or shaped freehand before it sets.
It takes patience since plaster dries fast, so I work in small sections. Talk about a texture upgrade for a plain wall!
- Sculptural without a kiln
- Plaster from the hardware store
- Sets within the hour
Cuadro Infantil Con Acuarela
Watercolor pieces made for a kid’s room do not need to be perfect to look charming. Loose splashes of color inside simple shapes work every time.
It somehow looks like it belongs in a gallery! Who would’ve guessed?
- Cute even when it’s messy
- Watercolor set from the drawer
Cuadro Con Marco De Ramas
A frame built from actual branches looks like it walked out of a cabin somewhere. Straight branches from the yard get trimmed to size and glued into a square.
I sand the rough spots down first so nobody catches a splinter later. It skips the store frame completely and costs almost nothing!
- Free frame from the yard
- Branches from the backyard
- Sand before assembling
Cuadro De Mapamundi Vintage
Vintage map pieces have that old library feel without needing an actual antique. A tea stain or a light coffee wash ages a plain map in minutes.
I frame mine simply and it looks like it’s been on that wall for decades. Not that anyone needs to know it was printed last week, haha!
- Instant decades old look
- Coffee wash ages the paper
Cuadro Con Letras De Madera
Wooden letters spelling out a name or a short word are still one of the easiest wall pieces out there. Craft store letters get painted or wrapped in twine.
I hang mine with just a small nail since they’re so light. No shame in loving something this simple, same!
- Barely needs a hammer
- Twine or paint, your choice
Cuadro De Flores Secas Enmarcadas
Last but definitely not least, dried flowers get their own frame here too. This one skips the pressing step since the flowers stay a little puffed and dimensional.
I hang mine somewhere with no direct sun so the color holds longer. Simple, pretty and it barely takes any effort at all! Not in my book, lol!
- Skips the pressing step
- Dried flowers from a bouquet
- Keeps color out of direct sun
