By the end of this list you’ll have 16 small ways to make an ordinary Tuesday feel special. No big budget needed! No overhaul of your whole schedule either.
I scrolled through hundreds of pins to put this together, lol! Most of them were so pretty but completely unrealistic for a regular week.
So I kept the ones that actually work in a real home with a real schedule. Things you can do on a lunch break or a lazy Sunday, am I right?
Some of these cost nothing at all. Others might mean grabbing a candle or a secondhand book on your next errand run.
Think of this as a menu, not a checklist. Pick two or three that sound fun this week and just start there.
Ready to romanticize your life list a little? Let’s get into it!
ROMANTICIZE YOUR LIFE LIST
Light Candles During Morning Coffee
We’re starting off strong with candles at the coffee maker. There’s something about a flickering flame next to your mug that turns five minutes into a whole moment. How cute is this?
Worth it every single time!
- The five minute reset
- Any mug you already own works
- Lasts through a full pot of coffee
Write Handwritten Letters To Friends
Handwritten letters feel like a lost art. Getting one still stops people in their tracks. I keep every single one in a shoebox under my bed.
Grab some stationery from the craft aisle. Write to someone who’d never expect it, since it costs less than a stamp’s worth of effort. It lands so much bigger than a text ever could!
- Snail mail still wins
- A stamp and ten quiet minutes
- Works for any occasion at all
Journal In A Cozy Cafe
Is it really a slow morning without a cafe corner and a journal? Not in my book! There’s something about background chatter that makes your own thoughts feel louder.
Order the fancy drink, find the window seat and just write whatever comes out. No pressure for it to be deep. Even three messy lines count!
Pick Fresh Flowers Weekly
Fresh flowers on the counter change the whole mood of a kitchen. Even a cheap bunch from the grocery store does the job. I forget mine exist until they wilt, honestly.
Her place always smells amazing! Pick whatever’s cheapest and in season.
- Grocery store bouquet upgrade
- Trim the stems at an angle first
- Fresh water keeps them going longer
Take Solo Sunset Walks
Solo sunset walks are criminally underrated, who doesn’t love that? No headphones needed, though they help if your brain won’t quiet down. I take mine most nights just to shake off the day.
Twenty minutes outside as the sky turns orange fixes more than it should, honestly. Same!
Bake Bread From Scratch
Baking bread from scratch sounds intimidating until you actually try it once. Flour, water, yeast and salt; that’s basically the whole ingredient list. My kitchen turns into a bakery for one afternoon every time.
He asks every single time like I’m lying to him. It’s become our little running joke!
- No machine required
- Rises overnight on the counter
- Bakes at 450 degrees
Set A Pretty Reading Nook
A pretty reading nook is one of those how to romanticize your life ideas that actually sticks. A comfy chair, a soft blanket and decent light are the whole formula. I found my chair at a thrift store for eight bucks.
Thrift stores are goldmines for cheap lamps and throw pillows. I end up sitting there way more than I planned to!
- The corner nobody uses
- Thrift find lamp does the trick
- Just needs one good chair
Walk Slowly With Sunglasses On
Walking slowly with sunglasses on is peak main character energy ideas territory. It costs absolutely nothing! Slow your pace down on purpose. Notice things you’d normally rush past. I feel ridiculous the first block every time.
It sounds silly written out, doesn’t it?
Wear A Flowy Sundress
A flowy sundress turns a plain errand run into something with a little more flair. Doesn’t matter where you’re actually headed. I’ve worn mine to the DMV and felt unreasonably good about it, haha!
Target run or grocery store, the dress doesn’t care. Talk about main character energy without even trying, haha!
Order A Fancy Latte Alone
Ordering a fancy latte alone might be the most underrated act of self care on this whole list. Who doesn’t love that? No sharing, no splitting the bill, just you and the good drink.
I disagree. I’ll die on this hill, lol!
Twirl In An Open Field
Twirling in an open field feels ridiculous the first time. Do it anyway!
There’s a reason every dreamy movie scene has this shot in it. No shame in that. Grass stains are a small price to pay!
Watch Clouds From A Blanket
Watching clouds from a blanket is the simple joys list entry that everyone forgets about. It costs zero dollars and takes zero planning. How cute is this?
Grab an old quilt from the closet and just lie down in the yard. The shapes get weirder the longer you stare, I promise!
Sip Tea By The Window
Tea by the window hits different when the weather turns cold. There’s a stillness to it that coffee somehow doesn’t have. I have one mug I hoard just for this and refuse to share it.
Pick a mug you actually love. Sit for ten uninterrupted minutes. It works every single time, no exceptions!
Smell Rain On Pavement
Petrichor is the fancy word for it, but most of us just call it that smell after it rains. Something about wet pavement resets a whole day, am I right?
This one made the little things to enjoy list because it sneaks up on you every single time. You can’t buy it or plan it either!
Listen To Birds At Dawn
Birds at dawn are basically nature’s free alarm clock. A much nicer one! I crack a window before my usual scroll session starts. My phone stays face down for those few minutes, which never happens otherwise.
The chirping fades once traffic picks up. This one’s a small window, so grab it while it lasts!
Find Coins In Old Coats
Last but definitely not least, we have finding coins in old coats. There’s a tiny thrill to digging through a jacket pocket from last winter and finding actual money in there, who doesn’t love that?
It’s such a small thing, but it always makes me smile.
