20 Teacher Outfits With Cute Layers, Prints and Simple Details

Looking for teacher outfits that go beyond the same top and pants? Think checked dresses, colorful cardigans and a little pop of red with black-and-white prints.

These looks give you plenty to try with pieces you might already have.

You can keep things simple or bring in a fun pattern. Pick the combinations that suit your school’s dress code, with changes to hemlines or coverage where needed.

I especially love the pretty collars and patterned vests!

Teacher outfit ideas worth saving

taupe cardigan and dark dress

We’re starting off strong with this pretty dark midi dress and taupe cardigan. I love the gathered skirt with those pointed patterned shoes.

Try a shorter cardigan over your own dress to follow this look. A black shoulder bag keeps the rest simple.

blue vest and puffed sleeves

How cute is this blue vest? The white puffed sleeves are my favorite part of the outfit. The shirt hem peeks out above dark wide-leg pants.

Keep the little animal-print shoes if you want an extra pattern without changing the whole look.

gingham dress and black jacket

I am obsessed with this black-and-white gingham dress. It’s so cute with the short black jacket and gray-and-white sneakers.

Add a cream tote to try the same combination. There’s no need for lots of extra accessories here.

brown pinafore and ruffled collar

This blouse may just be one of my favorites here. I love the rounded white collar and the little ruffles at the wrists.

Layer yours under a brown pinafore with front pockets. Black tights and brown ankle boots finish the outfit shown here.

striped tee and blue skirt

The stripe fans are going to love this! A black-and-white tee sits tucked into a long blue skirt, with white high-tops underneath.

The skirt has a high front slit. For a classroom version, I’d choose a similar shape with a lower slit and keep that bright pink shoulder bag.

navy blazer and tan pants

If you’re looking for teacher outfits with a dressier feel, this one is for you. The navy blazer looks so pretty over a blue-and-white striped shirt.

Pair yours with tan wide-leg pants and pale pointed shoes. Let the striped cuffs show below the blazer sleeves like they do here.

white tee and checked skirt

Don’t want to go all out with layers? No problem!

This fitted white tee and long checked skirt make a lovely starting point. I love the brown bag with the brown boots.

You could swap the cropped tee for a longer one if you want the waist fully covered.

black overalls and stripes

I love these black overalls with the loose striped sleeves. The wide legs and front pockets are just too cute together.

Try a black-and-white long-sleeve top underneath to keep this same simple pairing.

patterned vest and brown belt

If you love a patterned vest, this one is worth saving. The rows of small shapes look so pretty over the pale collared shirt.

Tuck the layers into dark wide-leg pants, then add a brown belt with a decorative buckle. That’s the detail I’d keep.

brown sweater and tiny florals

Don’t want to add a belt or lots of jewelry? No problem there! Simply try a loose brown sweater over a dark floral midi skirt.

The tiny pink flowers are so pretty. Black lace-up ankle boots finish this look without adding another color.

checked dress and chunky boots

How cute is this layered dress? The brown-and-cream checks look lovely over the pale turtleneck, with a green lanyard down the front.

Try black platform ankle boots if you want to follow this outfit. I especially love how the dress has pockets!

rust sweater and gingham pants

This is actually one of my favorite color combinations here. The rust sweater looks so good with black-and-white gingham pants.

Add a rust-colored printed bandana at the neckline to try the same idea. The glossy black loafers have little silver-tone details across the front.

pink cardigan and cuffed jeans

I am obsessed with this pink cardigan. It’s just so cute, plus those large pale buttons are such a pretty detail.

For a school day when jeans are allowed, try it over a white blouse. Pair those layers with wide-leg jeans rolled into broad cuffs at the ankles.

Don’t forget a little bag charm if you like that playful touch.

green pleats and floral jacket

If you are looking for an outfit with lots of color, then this one is for you. There’s a green pleated skirt, a mustard high-neck top and a jacket covered in little flowers.

I love the green cuffs on the jacket. Keep those turned back if you’re trying a similar combination.

black top and wide checks

If you’re looking for something simple to put together, go with this black short-sleeve top and cropped gingham pants. The wide legs make the checks easy to see.

The pale blue lanyard is a cute touch of color against the plain top.

polka dots and red shoes

How cute are these red shoes? I love how they match the red scarf tied over the dark gray overshirt.

The white top and black-dotted cropped pants make a black-and-white base beneath the gray layer. Try matching your scarf to your shoes if you want to bring this idea into another outfit.

long brown dress and black boots

Don’t want to mix prints and want something a little simpler? This long brown dress is for you.

I love the vertical ribbed detail and the long sleeves.

Keep the black ankle boots and shoulder bag. A short layered necklace is all I’d add at the neckline.

cream vest and dark pants

This is another pretty vest outfit, but it’s a little different from the patterned one above. A cream vest goes over a white short-sleeve tee with dark brown wide-leg pants.

The gray-and-white sneakers keep it casual. I’d leave this combination just as simple.

blue jacket and printed scarf

Bring a little pattern to a plain top with a small scarf at the neck. I love it here with the oversized blue jacket and dark cropped pants.

Try rolling your jacket cuffs like these. White sneakers and a large tan tote finish the outfit.

santa vest and wide-leg jeans

Last but definitely not least, we have this cute holiday outfit. The Santa figures along the navy vest are adorable, especially with that red-and-white edging.

For a festive casual day, layer a similar vest over a plain white long-sleeve top. The wide-leg jeans and pale shoes let the little Santas stand out.
