Looking for wacky wednesday outfits for teachers that go beyond mismatched socks? Think rainbow skirts, clashing prints and a hat with colorful streamers.
These pictures range from all-out costumes to everyday outfits you could make a little sillier.
You can keep things simple or go all out. A few photos show children rather than teachers, so borrow those accessory ideas for your own outfit. There’s also a repeated look, with another little detail worth noticing.
Colorful outfits and wacky accessories to try
navy sweater and colorful plaid
We’re starting off with a simpler look. I love the red, yellow and blue plaid skirt with the navy sweater and brown buckle boots.
The mustard-colored bag is such a pretty extra touch.
This isn’t an all-out wacky outfit on its own. Try adding a bright patterned scarf if you want to take it in that direction.
rainbow streamer hat
How fun is this hat?! The tall rainbow stripes and long colorful streamers do most of the work here.
This child’s outfit gives you an accessory idea to borrow. Try a similar hat with a plain collared shirt, keeping the streamers clear of your eyes.
bright shorts over black leggings
If you are looking for lots of color, this one is for you. There are blue geometric shorts, orange striped shorts and a bright lime top, plus a rainbow boa.
I especially love the different sock heights. Try patterned shorts over black leggings, then choose two socks that definitely don’t match.
stripes dots and sky-high hair
These looks go all out with the mismatching! The outfit on the right pairs a striped top with dotted pants and a green printed scarf.
On the left, floral shorts sit over patterned leggings.
That tall ponytail with blue and silver-colored decorations is my favorite part. You could borrow the hair idea without copying every clothing layer.
rainbow skirt and pink bow
I am obsessed with this colorful clown look. The giant pink bow and little red nose are so cute with the yellow tee.
Try a rainbow tutu-style skirt over shorts with rainbow legwear to follow this combination. Don’t forget the black suspenders if you want that same extra detail.
unicorn graphic and big hair bow
This photo shows a child’s outfit from the back, with a striped unicorn top, pink sleeves and a large bow above the bun. The black pants and boots keep the rest simple.
For your own version, try a playful graphic top with an oversized hair bow. You don’t need to copy the backpack to borrow the idea.
patchwork colors and red dots
This may just be one of my favorite print combinations here. I love the bright blocks on the skirt with the pink patterned jacket. Those red dotted tights are adorable.
Add colorful bead necklaces over a striped top if you want to follow the same more-is-more look.
striped tie and rainbow skirt
Who says a tie has to go with a dressy outfit? This red-and-yellow striped one sits over a gray graphic tee, with a rainbow skirt layered over plaid shorts.
The blue and green sneakers make the mismatching even better. Try two different-colored shoes in the same style for your own version.
art-supply crown
How creative is this headpiece? Colored pencils, crayons and paintbrushes fan out above little colorful pom-poms.
The plain pink top lets you keep the outfit itself simple.
If you want to try the idea for school, I’d choose blunt lightweight replicas rather than pointed pencils.
polka dots stripes and flowers
Don’t want to wear a costume? No problem! This outfit mixes a black polka-dot shirt with black-and-white striped pants and a floral scarf.
It’s a polished print mix rather than an obviously wacky look. You could add a giant bow if you wanted to make it more playful.
green stripes and red socks
I love these green striped pants with the green cardigan. The light-blue shirt hangs below the cardigan, with a matching blue tie at the neck.
This is another everyday starting point. Swap one of the red socks for a patterned one if you want a small Wacky Wednesday twist.
pink Santa tee and checked pants
Is Santa joining Wacky Wednesday too? The pink Santa tee looks so cute with these dark checked suspender pants and white shoes.
Wearing a holiday graphic outside its season could be your playful twist. Keep the rest just like this if you don’t want lots of accessories.
oversized blazer and long shorts
If you like unexpected layers, this one is for you. A checked blazer goes over a graphic tee and white collared shirt, with long faded blue shorts below.
The white socks and chunky black loafers are worth keeping. For a sillier version, you could trade the necklace for a colorful oversized bow tie.
mismatched socks and colorful sneakers
This is the same rainbow-skirt outfit shown earlier, so here’s a closer detail to borrow: the socks don’t just have different patterns. They’re different heights too.
One has rainbow stripes while the taller black sock has colorful spots and a pink cuff. You could try that idea without adding the skirt or tie.
neon layers and bright sunglasses
There’s so much to choose from in this group! I love the lime leggings under blue shorts and the pink pants with purple socks. The bright floral shirts are fun too.
If you’re planning outfits with other teachers, try different color combinations with sunglasses as your shared detail. Nothing needs to match exactly.
striped skirt and long scarf
Don’t want to go overboard with bright accessories? This brown sweater and multicolored striped skirt give you a quieter starting point.
I love the long fringed scarf down the front.
The pictured outfit isn’t particularly wacky, but you could add a novelty headband to make it fit the theme.
big flowers and turquoise pants
The pink and turquoise pairing is so pretty in this outfit. Large orange and teal flowers cover the shirt, with bright pink hoops beside it.

Try this as a colorful starting point rather than a costume. An oversized hair bow would be a fun addition for Wacky Wednesday.
rainbow hair and cloud details
OMG, how adorable is this rainbow hair accessory? The colored arches stretch between two white cloud shapes.
I love how the gray rainbow tee carries on the theme.
Pair a similar accessory with a pink-and-purple cardigan if you want to follow this colorful look.
coral tee and green tutu
This is a fun one if you love neon colors. The coral tee is knotted over a lime top, with a green tutu-style skirt and lime cropped leggings below.

My favorite details are the chunky yellow and green bangles. Add bright glasses and a side bow if you want the same all-out accessory mix.
printed shirt and streamer hat
Last but definitely not least, this child’s outfit gives you another playful combination to borrow. There’s a busy printed shirt, plaid shorts and a dark patterned tie, topped with a blue-and-yellow streamer hat.
For a teacher version, try the printed shirt and tie with checked pants. The red glasses would be a cute finishing touch.
