20 Santa Fe Patio Ideas With Colorful Pots, Courtyard Lights and Desert Details

Looking for santa fe patio ideas with a little color and plenty of character? Think turquoise doors, rounded fireplaces and bright pots tucked beside your seating.

These pictures include Southwestern details plus a few Mediterranean-style courtyards and modern terraces to borrow ideas from.

You can keep things simple or go all out with patterns. Start with a corner you’d like to change, then decide whether it needs a colorful chair, a few plants or lights overhead.

Patio ideas worth saving

a rosy corner fireplace

We’re starting off strong with this gorgeous rounded fireplace. I love the rosy color and the little recessed detail above the arched opening.

The low walls on either side leave those mountain views open.

If you’re planning a similar fireplace, keep the surrounding decor simple. This shape doesn’t need much added to it.

turquoise door and orange pots

How pretty is this turquoise door? The dark handle and ring knocker look so good against the bright blue-green color.

Try grouping orange pots on either side of your own doorway, with taller plants toward the back. Leave the doormat and entrance clear.

pale pots and black lanterns

Don’t want to go all out with bright colors? No problem! These pale rounded planters look lovely beneath the black wall lanterns. I especially love the tall branching cacti at the far end.

Choose pots in a similar shade if you want to try this quieter look.

a long beamed porch

This ceiling may just be my favorite detail here. The closely spaced narrow poles sit above larger crossbeams, running the whole length of the porch.

A curved chair sits against the wall while stacked logs line the open side. For your own narrow porch, try keeping seating to one edge so there’s a clear route through.

red chiles and turquoise trim

I love the red chile ristras hanging above this little seating corner. The turquoise window trim and carved chair backs are just as pretty.

If you want a small detail to borrow, try a red hanging accent beside a blue-green door or window. You don’t need to repeat every part of the scene.

colorful banners and glowing lights

If you are looking for lots of color, then this one is for you. Pink, yellow, blue, orange and green banners stretch across the pale wall beneath rows of glowing bulbs.

The large patterned jars are gorgeous too. Try a colorful banner above a small grouping of pots for your own patio gathering.

a flower-filled seating nook

How cute is this little garden sitting area? The tan seats have patterned pillows and a bright red cushion, with pots of red and yellow flowers along the approach.

I especially love the greenery climbing across the back wall. Keep your own flower pots beside the path rather than in the middle of it.

turquoise chairs and sun decorations

I am obsessed with this turquoise table and chair set. It’s so cute with the lime and pink cushions, plus those sun-shaped wall decorations.

The colorful wall fountain adds another pretty detail. If you’d rather start small, try bright cushions with a painted bistro set.

a vine-covered dining courtyard

Love a patio that’s full of plants? This courtyard leans more Mediterranean than Southwestern, with hanging grape clusters, climbing flowers and a wall fountain behind the dining table.

The little pots tucked into wall niches are my favorite part. Borrow that display idea with plants suited to your own climate.

orange seating and bold stripes

This is one of my favorite colorful patios on the list. I love how the orange seating matches the wall, with blue, yellow and red stripes running through the rug.

Try a mix of striped and patterned pillows if you want a similar look. There’s no need for every pillow to match.

a mosaic bench

If you are looking for one colorful piece to add beside a plain wall, this bench is for you. The top has a mix of blue, white, yellow and orange patterns inside a dark border.

The painted planters nearby carry on that colorful look without filling the walkway.

a pale fireplace with a curved arch

This is another beautiful rounded fireplace, but the pale finish gives it a different look. I love the irregular dark-edged pieces around the opening and the orange pots nearby.

Save the shape as inspiration rather than copying the close placement of the bench and rug. Any working fireplace needs appropriate clearances from furnishings and plants.

paired hanging chairs

How cute are those matching hanging chairs? This is a modern rooftop setting rather than a traditional Santa Fe courtyard, but the pale seating and brown planters offer plenty of ideas to borrow.

The two sofas face each other across a narrow table. Try that arrangement if you want your patio seating to feel more like a conversation area.

a wall of colorful planters

Don’t want to use up more floor space? Look at this gorgeous collection of wall planters.

The deep blue one sits among yellow, green and multicolored designs.

Some hold plants while others show off their patterns all on their own. Mix the two if you want to try a similar display.

a lounge chair beneath a lantern

If you’re looking for a smaller seating idea, go with a long lounge chair and a little round table. I love the patterned pillow and striped throw on this one.

The large wall lantern is a lovely detail above it. A pot of flowers on the table keeps the rest simple.

bistro tables and curled chair backs

This courtyard has more of a garden-café look, with small dark tables arranged around a circular fountain. The curled chair backs and strings of bulbs are so pretty together.

For a smaller patio, borrow just one bistro set and a strand of outdoor-rated lights. You don’t need room for the whole arrangement.

a straight path to the pergola

Don’t want lots of patterns or colorful accessories? No problem there!

This patio uses pale rectangular stepping slabs, dark pebbles and large spiky plants along the path.

The seating beneath the pergola stays mostly gray and brown, with a little orange on one pillow. I’d keep that simple color mix.

pink flowers over the porch

I am obsessed with the pink flowers spilling over this porch roof. The hanging chair and pale cushioned bench look lovely beneath them.

This scene has a Mediterranean feel rather than a desert setting. Borrow the idea of flowering greenery around a covered sitting area, choosing a climber that suits your location.

peach tones and tall cacti

This is such a pretty way to keep a dining patio mostly one color. The chunky peach-colored table sits against a similar wall, with brown chairs and tall green cacti around it.

I love the fringed wall hanging. Try one patterned accent like this if you want a little decoration without adding lots of different colors.

a courtyard under string lights

Last but definitely not least, we have this lovely courtyard with rows of lights overhead. I love the golden glow against the earthy walls and the simple dining table below.

For your own table, one potted plant is all you need. Keep your centerpiece small if you want the overhead lights to be the main decoration.
