Looking for wine glass painting designs for beginners that go beyond plain polka dots? Think tiny flowers, pink leafy branches and even a little ghost.
These ideas include simple shapes to practice plus some more detailed designs you can borrow from as your confidence grows.
You can keep it simple or go all out. Pick a favorite color combination first.
For glasses you’ll drink from, keep paint away from the rim and interior, then follow your glass-paint label’s curing and care instructions.
Wine glass painting ideas worth saving
blue and white dots
We’re starting off strong with these gorgeous blue and white dots. I love the little circles inside the larger ones.
The pointed rows around the bowl make this much more detailed than a scattered polka-dot pattern.
For a simpler version, try one row of large blue dots with smaller white ones between them.
colorful little flowers
How cute are these little flowers? Pink, purple and orange blooms sit on thin green stems, with plenty of clear glass between them.
Try a few flowers at different heights rather than filling every space. Those small green leaves are a pretty finishing touch.
golden leaves and white branches
This tree design may just be one of my favorites here. The white trunk runs right down the stem, with little black marks and clusters of yellow and orange leaves above.
I especially love the painted pile of leaves on the base. Keep that detail if you try a smaller tree with fewer branches.
looping christmas lights
If you want a Christmas design without painting lots of tiny branches, this one is for you. A green line loops into a tree shape, with colorful little bulbs dotted along it. The curled ends are so cute!
red dotted heart
Don’t want to cover the whole glass? No problem!
This red and white heart leaves the rest clear. I love how one side curls inward instead of stopping at a plain heart outline.
You could use fewer dots and a simple heart shape for your first attempt.
sunflower bowls and green stems
I am obsessed with these sunflower glasses. The large yellow petals wrap around the bowls, while the green stems and painted leaves carry the flower theme down to the bases.

There’s quite a bit of shading here. For a simpler take, try yellow petals with just a few orange accents.
little gnome in the snow
How adorable is this gnome? The curved red hat, pink nose and long white beard are such a sweet combination.
Little white trees and snow dots fill the space around him.
If the full scene feels like too much, borrow the gnome and a few snow dots. You can leave the detailed snowflakes for another glass.
ghost and orange moon
Looks like this little ghost has a pumpkin to keep it company! I love the big orange moon behind it and the dark branch along the side.
Try a plain white ghost with two black eyes if you want to skip the shading. The orange pumpkin would still be a cute addition.
fruit branch outline
Not ready to draw a whole design freehand? This image shows a fruit-and-leaf outline on paper inside the glass, rather than a finished painted piece.
A simple paper guide could help you plan your own arrangement. Choose a few rounded fruits and pointed leaves so you’re not starting with lots of tiny details.
purple meadow flowers
This is another gorgeous flower idea, but there’s a little more going on here. Purple petals, white daisies and tiny blue dots fill the bowl, with a matching curved sprig on the base.
The little white daisies are my favorite part. You could start with those before adding the taller purple flowers.
scattered leopard spots
The animal-print fans are going to love this! Tan patches have broken black borders, with different-sized spots continuing down the stem and onto the base.
Keep your shapes a little uneven if you want this same look. They don’t need to be matching circles.
cactus sunset
Bring a little sunset color to your glass with this yellow, orange and red design. The black cactus silhouettes look so pretty against those painted bands.
For your own version, try one large cactus instead of several smaller ones. Leave the stem clear like the glasses here.
pink leafy sprigs
I love these pink branches with their rows of little oval leaves. The mix of pale pink and brighter pink is just too pretty.
If you’re looking for a repeating shape to practice, try a single curved sprig first. Add more around the bowl if you like the fuller look.
gold-outlined bees
How gorgeous are these bees? The gold-colored outlines around the wings are my favorite detail, with little honeycomb shapes scattered nearby.
This one has finer linework than the dotted designs. For a beginner version, try a striped oval bee with plain white wings and leave out the tiny wing sections.

green leaves and yellow flowers
If you love leafy designs but want a little color too, this one is for you. Long green sprigs curve across the glass, with small yellow flowers tucked between them.
I’d keep the dark flower centers. They’re such a simple detail beside all those pointed leaves.
pink blossom branch
These blossoms are absolutely gorgeous. The pale petals have deeper pink centers, with fine white lines and light green leaves along a brown branch.
You don’t have to copy every little line. Try flat pink petals and darker centers for a simpler version of this floral design.
soft green rounded leaves
Don’t want bright flowers or lots of decoration? Look no further because this leafy glass is for you.
The rounded green leaves have darker shading near their bases and thin lines through the middle. I’d keep the same soft green palette.

moon behind bare branches
This is such a pretty way to use black and white. The black stem becomes a tree, with bare branches reaching around a white moon.
Tiny white specks fill the clear spaces.
Try fewer branches for your own version. Keep the round moon and a scattering of white dots to bring the night-sky look together.
orange butterfly and yellow blooms
I know the flowers above are gorgeous, but this butterfly is another favorite. Mostly because of those orange wings with black lines and little white dots around the edges.
The yellow flower clusters below are lovely too. You could borrow just those dotted blooms for a first project, then try the detailed butterfly later.
hanging spiders and a web
Last but definitely not least, we have these little hanging spiders. Their round bodies and bent legs are so cute, plus there’s a big web across the base.
Try hanging yours at different heights like these. If you plan to drink from the glass, start the painted threads farther below the rim than shown.
