20 Flower Bed Around Tree Ideas and Pretty Garden Details

Looking for flower bed around tree ideas with a little more color? Think pink blooms, purple spring flowers or bright leaves inside a simple border.

These pictures include tree beds plus a few nearby garden ideas you can borrow for their colors and finishing touches.

You can keep things simple or go all out. Just choose plants for your light and growing conditions, protect existing roots and keep added soil or mulch away from the trunk.

Pretty planting ideas around trees

pink flowers and a brick circle

We’re starting off strong with this pretty pink flower bed. I love the low dark-green plants around the outside and the flat red brick border.

If you want to try the same look, stick to a few shades of pink rather than mixing every flower color together.

curving beds and leafy layers

How gorgeous are these curving beds? The white-edged leaves, ferns and little purple flowers repeat around several trees, with strips of lawn between them.

You don’t have to give every tree a completely different design. Try repeating a favorite leaf shape or flower color like this.

rounded rocks and pink bells

If you love an uneven border, this one is for you. Large pale rocks sit among smaller rounded ones, with broad green leaves and dangling pink flowers behind them.

I’d borrow the loose arrangement for an outer edge rather than pile rocks against the trunk.

a bright mixed flower ring

I am obsessed with these pink and coral flowers. The little white and pale lavender blooms are just as pretty tucked between them.

The flowers almost hide the low border here. Save this one if you prefer a flower-filled look over lots of visible edging.

lights above the garden

Who says the flowers have to be the only thing you notice? This nighttime view is all about the glowing tree, strings of lights and a bench beside the planted bed.

The individual blooms are hard to make out after dark, but the lighting is lovely inspiration for a garden seating spot.

a little blue pebble stream

How cute is this decorative stream? Blue and white pieces run through a wider strip of white pebbles toward an orange-colored pot.

There’s plenty of flower inspiration too, from the tall purple and white spikes to the red blooms on the left. I’d choose either the colorful planting or the pebble detail if you want a simpler version.

rounded shrubs and tiny red blooms

Don’t want flowers to take over the whole bed? No problem!

This design uses rounded green shrubs, bright lime foliage and a little row of red blooms along the front.

I especially love the branching shape of the small tree above them.

purple and white spring flowers

This spring planting may just be one of my favorites here. The purple cup-shaped flowers and little hanging white blooms look so pretty around the mossy tree base.

There’s no hard border in sight. Keep that loose outline if you want a similar garden look.

tall ferns and pink foliage

If you are looking for lots of leafy inspiration, then this one is for you. Tall fern fronds rise behind pink flower spikes and broad pink-purple leaves.

This is a wider planting beneath several trees rather than a little circular bed. Try borrowing the mix of tall fronds and low colorful foliage for your own space.

colorful flowers beside the path

I love this cheerful mix of red, yellow, orange and white flowers. The separate little clumps leave patches of dark ground showing between them.

The pale edging follows the curve beside the paving. It’s a pretty detail to save if your tree already sits near a walkway.

a blue and white flower circle

How pretty are these blue, white and purple flower heads? This image shows a standalone circular flower bed, not a bed wrapped around a visible tree.

You can still borrow the color combination for planting nearby. I’d keep the pale edging too if you like this simple outline.

pink blooms by the sidewalk

This is another colorful tree bed, but the pink flower mounds are my favorite part. White blooms sit around the sides while taller orange flowers rise nearer the middle.

The nearby fence border repeats several of those colors. Try carrying one flower color into another bed if you want the same little connection.

a square border with a seat

Don’t want another round bed? This square enclosure offers something different, with gray blocks, sparse planting and a slatted seat along one side.

The seat is the detail I’d save. Before copying a raised enclosure around an established tree, get advice on protecting its roots and keeping its original soil level.

a narrow red-stone border

This picture is a narrow house-side bed rather than a flower bed around a tree. The red ground covering, pale boulders and scattered green plants are the details to borrow.

If you like the colors, try a similar combination in a separate border nearby instead of copying this as a tree-ring layout.

mixed blooms and rounded stones

I am obsessed with this flower-filled circle. There are pink, red, purple and white blooms all around the trunk, with rounded stones marking the outside.

The pale pink flowers spilling toward the front are especially cute. Choose a similar trailing shape for the outer part of your bed if you love that detail.

small flower clumps under green leaves

If you’re looking for a more spaced-out arrangement, go with this idea. Yellow, red and white flowers sit in separate groups beneath a broad green canopy.

I like that you can still see the ground covering and the full pinkish border. You don’t need to fill every gap with flowers.

a log edge and orange flowers

This is a different way to outline a tree bed. Uneven logs and chunky branches surround small groups of yellow and orange blooms.

Keep the flowers simple if you want the rough border to be the main detail. I’d leave the logs loosely arranged rather than aim for a perfect circle.

lime and burgundy leaves

Don’t want to rely on flowers for color? No problem there!

This little ring mixes lime, burgundy and copper-colored foliage inside a pale block border.

The dark leaves with bright edges are my favorite part. They look so pretty beside the solid lime-green clump.

red leaves by a white fence

This red-leaved tree is gorgeous against the white fence. Coral, red and white flowers fill the longer bed below it rather than forming a separate ring.

If your tree sits near a boundary, this is a lovely layout to consider. Let the planting follow the fence instead of forcing it into a circle.

bold leaves and a hanging lantern

Last but definitely not least, we have this leafy bed with a little black lantern. I love the pink-centered leaves beside the green-and-white foliage.

The bed has a loose edge against the lawn without bricks or stones. Keep that simple outline if the colorful leaves are your favorite part too.
