20 Valentine's Day Cupcakes With Hearts, Roses and Cute Toppers

Looking for valentines day cupcakes with a little something extra? Think pink frosting roses, tiny love letters and bears holding bright pink hearts.

There’s plenty to choose from here, whether you like a simple swirl or a whole cupcake bouquet.

You can keep the decorations small or go all out. I especially love the pastel conversation hearts! These ideas focus on the decorating, with a few heart-shaped little cakes included for inspiration too.

Valentine's Day Cupcake Ideas to Save

pink and red heart outlines

We’re starting off strong with these pretty heart toppers. I love how the open pink and red hearts sit above the white frosting swirls.

Tiny heart sprinkles bring those same colors down onto the cupcakes.

If you want to follow this look, try overlapping two heart toppers on each swirl.

a pale pink rose

How gorgeous is this little rose? The pale pink petals curl around a tight center, with some of the golden cupcake still showing around the edge.

This is a lovely reference to save if you want to practice petal piping. I’d leave off the sprinkles and let the flower be the whole decoration.

dipped strawberries and pink swirls

I am obsessed with these strawberry toppers. They’re almost as wide as the cupcakes!

The dark coating has thin drizzle lines across it, with red fruit and green leaves still showing.

Keep the pale pink frosting underneath if you want this same pretty combination.

little heart-shaped cakes

These are little heart-shaped cakes rather than the usual cupcakes, but the frosting idea is worth saving. I love the broad brown swirls that follow the shape right out to the pointed ends.

For a cupcake variation, try the same frosting color with a small cluster of pink and red sprinkles in the center.

pastel conversation hearts

How cute is this? The pastel heart tops look like oversized conversation candies, complete with little red messages.

“HUGS” and “LOVE YOU” are such sweet choices.

Try mixing pale blue, lilac, pink and yellow rather than sticking to just one color. That’s my favorite part of this batch.

pink hearts with tiny sprinkles

If you’re looking for a heart design without lettering, this one is for you. Pale pink frosting covers the heart-shaped tops, with tiny red, pink and white sprinkles scattered across them.

The little swoops in the frosting are lovely just as they are.

a bright pink heart

Don’t want a big frosting swirl? No problem!

This bright pink cupcake shows off its heart shape without any frosting at all. The matching pink liner makes it even cuter.

You could keep yours plain like this or add a small white frosting heart once it has cooled.

a rose cupcake bouquet

This cupcake bouquet may just be my favorite one so far. I love the mix of red and two-tone pink roses, plus the green leaves tucked between them.

The long green stems and big pink bow turn the whole arrangement into a bouquet. Save this layout if you want your cupcakes displayed together rather than in separate rows.

strawberries with a glossy drizzle

Here is another strawberry-topped idea, but this one has an extra detail. A glossy dark drizzle runs over the pale pink frosting beneath each dipped strawberry.

I love the deep pink wrappers too. Choose a similar shade if you want a little more color without adding more decorations on top.

hearts and a golden arrow

Calling all heart lovers, this one is so cute! A red heart outline and a solid pink heart sit over a white scalloped top.

The gold-colored arrow lies diagonally across them.

If you try this design, use a food-safe arrow decoration and remove any non-edible pieces before serving.

red and pink frosting swirls

Don’t want to add heart toppers to every cupcake? No problem there!

These red, deep pink and light pink swirls bring in the Valentine’s colors all on their own.

Small round decorations and silver-colored accents finish the tops. I’d keep the decorations just as sparse so you can still see all those frosting folds.

raspberries on pale frosting

The raspberry fans are going to love this! Bright red berries sit on low, pale frosting swirls, with little green leaves tucked beside them.

The light dusting of white makes the fruit look especially pretty.

This is a nice option if you’d rather decorate with fruit than heart-shaped toppers.

pink rosettes and pearl details

I love this pale pink and bright pink pairing. Each rosette has a little pink heart beside a cluster of round decorations in different sizes.

Try keeping your sprinkles mostly along one side, like these. You’ll still get to see that gorgeous spiral in the middle.

red hearts on white frosting

If you are looking for a classic red-and-white combination, this one is for you. The deep red cupcakes have tall white frosting swirls, tiny red sprinkles and a solid red heart on top.

That single upright heart is all the extra decoration I’d choose.

little love letters

OMG, how adorable are those little envelopes? Each white envelope topper has a pink heart seal, sitting among pale pink piping.

Other cupcakes have clusters of hearts over deeper pink swirls.

You don’t have to make every cupcake match. Try alternating love letters and heart toppers for a box like this.

pink and white swirls

This is another pretty way to mix pink and white. The two colors run through the frosting swirls, with red, pink and white round sprinkles on top.

The silver-colored liners are a lovely finishing touch. No big topper needed here!

one big sparkling heart

If you are looking for a true eye-catcher, then this one is for you. The oversized red heart has a sparkly surface and rises above a low white frosting swirl.

To borrow the look, choose an edible heart topper with edible red decorating glitter. Keep the rest simple with a deep red wrapper.

layered hearts and two-tone frosting

There’s so much to love about this little cupcake. A tall pink swirl sits beside dark brown frosting folds, with pink, red and white hearts grouped above it.

I especially like the solid red heart between the two open outlines. Try mixing heart sizes if you want a similar layered arrangement.

cherries and tiny red hearts

Who doesn’t love a cherry on top? These glossy red cherries sit above white frosting swirls dotted with little red hearts.

The red wrappers tie everything together.

Space your heart decorations around the sides of the frosting if you want them visible from more than just the top.

bears holding pink hearts

Last but definitely not least, we have these adorable bear cupcakes. I am obsessed with the round ears and big dark noses!

Each bear has little brown paws beside a bright pink heart.

The ridged round faces sit above brown frosting swirls. Save this close-up as a decorating reference if you want to try an animal design instead of flowers.
