Looking for perennial flower bed ideas with a little more color? Pink coneflowers, purple flower spikes and big white blooms give you plenty to work with.
These gardens range from narrow fence borders to flower-filled corners, with some shrubs and seasonal flowers mixed in.
You can keep your palette simple or go all out. Borrow the colors and layouts you love, then check plant varieties against your climate, soil and sunlight before putting together your own shopping list.
Flower beds worth saving for your garden
pink yellow and white
We’re starting off strong with this cheerful flower bed. I love the pink coneflowers between the yellow blooms at the front and the white daisies behind them.
If you want to go a step further, tuck a little garden ornament beside the flowers like the one peeking out on the right.
white blooms and leafy layers
How pretty is this little corner? The white hydrangea heads sit above cream-edged hosta leaves, with pale pink plumes and ferns filling the spaces around them.
Follow the curved path with smaller plants at the edge if you want to borrow this layout. Those tiny purple flowers are such a sweet detail.
pink flowers and arching grasses
I am obsessed with these pale pink flowers. The tall, feathery grass heads arching above them are just as gorgeous.
Keep a strip of open lawn beside your planting if you like this look. Here, it leaves room to see the low silvery foliage beneath all those pink blooms.
a flower-filled cottage path
If you are looking for a garden with lots of little details, then this one is for you. There are pink roses around the windows, tall bell-shaped flowers and deep purple spikes beside the gravel path.

I especially love the uneven edging stones. For a smaller version, borrow just the pink-and-purple palette along one side of your walkway.
coneflowers beside the gravel
This is actually one of my favorite perennial flower bed ideas here. The pink coneflowers sit right beside the path, with white flower clusters and pale grass plumes rising behind them.
Try repeating a few groups of the same flowers down a long border rather than choosing something different for every spot.
golden flowers and purple spikes
The yellow daylilies are so pretty beside those deep purple flower spikes. I love how the same golden color appears again farther down the bed.
If you want a bright combination without adding lots of different colors, start with yellow and purple. The upright grass stems are another detail worth borrowing.
waves of purple and white
Don’t want to mix every color into your border? No problem! This path has broad patches of pale lavender, dark purple and white flowers, with a few pink blooms farther back.
For flower bed ideas perennial gardeners can adapt, this repeated color grouping is a lovely place to start.
colorful leaves around a tree
Who says the flowers have to do all the work? The copper, plum and rosy leaves are my favorite part of this tree-side bed.
Little pale pink flowers run along the lower edge.
If you’re borrowing this idea, choose foliage plants suited to your light conditions and avoid piling soil against the tree trunk.
a bright picket fence border
How cute is this fence-side garden? White daisies, orange cup-shaped flowers and tall pink bells fill the narrow space beside the sidewalk.
This is a mixed-flower look rather than a strictly perennial planting. You can borrow the loose arrangement while choosing locally suitable perennials for the main part of your bed.
white flowers by the front door
If you want to keep the flower colors simple, this one is for you. Rounded white blooms and pointed white flower clusters sit among clipped green shrubs and cream-edged leaves.
The low white flowers follow the whole lawn edge. I’d keep that repeated white border if recreating the look with plants suited to my garden.
a colorful rounded corner
There is so much to love in this little bed! Orange flowers fill the middle, pink coneflowers rise at the back and bright yellow blooms sit off to the right.

The rounded green shrubs and pale pebbles are lovely between all those colors. Try this curved outline if you have a corner where your patio meets the lawn.
pale plumes along the path
Here’s another look at the border shown earlier, with those pale grass plumes stretching down the path. I love the lavender-colored spikes tucked between them.
If the grasses are your favorite part too, use them as the starting point for your own version. Check their mature spread before deciding how close to the walkway to plant.
pink flowers along the sidewalk
This is another pretty picket fence idea, but the pink flowers get most of the attention here. Coneflowers and rounded pink clusters rise above smaller lavender blooms, with yellow flowers dotted along the edge.
You don’t have to fill the whole fence line at once. Try borrowing one pink-and-yellow grouping for a shorter section.
pink plumes and blue tufts
I am obsessed with that cloud of pink grass. The blue-gray tufts at the front are such a pretty addition beside the dusty pink flower heads and darker coneflowers.
Keep the low stone edging in mind if you want a clear boundary between your planting and a gravel path.
white and lilac flower globes
How gorgeous are these round flower heads? The white and lilac alliums stand on long stems above the smaller pink flowers below.
Ask your nursery about suitable ornamental allium varieties if you want to try this look. I’d keep both colors rather than choosing just one.
purple blooms over a winding path
If you love a flower-filled walkway, save this one. Large purple-flowering shrubs rise behind yellow daisylike flowers, pink coneflowers and smaller lavender patches.
There are even butterflies visible on the purple blooms. For your own version, choose locally appropriate flowering shrubs and leave enough room for the path as they grow.
flower beds on different levels
This garden may just be a favorite for its layout. The curved stone walls divide the slope into planted levels, with broad steps running between them.
Pink coneflowers, yellow blooms and low lavender patches leave plenty of the stonework visible. Borrow the spaced-out planting if you don’t want every bit of soil hidden.
purple flowers around a bench
I love this pale bench surrounded by purple and white flowers. The tall purple spikes on the left and rounded lavender blooms behind the seat make the whole corner so pretty.

If you want a similar sitting spot, leave a clear approach to the bench. You can still have flowers close by without planting across the entrance.

a woven fence and low edging
Don’t want a white picket fence? This woven fence is a lovely alternative.
Pink and white flower clusters sit beside rounded shrubs, rosette-shaped plants and scattered rocks.
The long, log-style edging is another detail worth saving. Treat the plant mix as visual inspiration rather than a ready-made planting plan, since their growing needs may differ.
a layered rainbow border
Last but definitely not least, we have this colorful lawn-side bed. I love the pale purple flower spikes rising above yellow clusters and bright pink blooms.

The tiny lavender flowers along the front are just as sweet. Try keeping your smallest plants near the lawn edge so they don’t disappear behind the taller flowers.
